"We cannot reason ourselves out of our basic irrationality, all we can do is learn the art of being irrational in a reasonable way" - Aldous Huxley
Martini is a family name that dates back to before the second world war. My family were Italian immigrants before the war but ran into prejudice due to their Italian names. During WWII Italy and Mussolini were allied with the Nazis and the Japanese. American soldiers were fighting and dying at the hands of these foreigners. Naturally a distrust and prejudice of Germans, Italians, and Japanese was predicated and almost encouraged in the US. In order to avoid any undue attention as a result, my family changed their last name from Martini to Martin in an effort to sound more "American". Martini is still a family name that we hold close as it represents our history and those that came before us.
Born and raised in Northern California. Grew up in the Sunnyvale/Cupertino/Los Altos region. It was a very quiet place to grow up. As I child I never wanted to be inside. I was always running around outside trying to enjoy nature as much as I could. Luckily I was given many opportunities to explore the mountains, the ocean, and everything in between. I began developing an interest in photography and design around the time I graduated high school. I began studying political science in college simply because I couldn't think of anything better to choose in the moment. After a while I realized how unfulfilled I was and really took a look at myself and where I wanted to be, what made me happy. Creating makes me happy, sharing, exploring, being able to create something beautiful, these are the things that make me happy.
